Contractual Advice During a Pandemic
Our expert solicitors and construction specialists provide valuable advice for handling your contracts during a pandemic.Blog
It has been a busy and exciting year for the Construction Consultancy Services team at BWL – securing work with over 20 clients and supporting the Professional Bid Services and Legal Services teams with bids, contracts and adjudications.
Below is Graeme's blog post which explores some of the challenges and successes we experienced throughout 2019 and looks forward into the year ahead.
Without a doubt, one of the main highlights for Construction Consultancy Services was the successful adjudication for our client, Expert Site Services.
This adjudication was the first time that the Construction Consultancy Services and Legal Services teams joined forces to support, and help, Expert Site Services with its adjudication.
Expert Site Services is a modular build contractor who needed BWL’s Commercial Management and Quantity Surveying support when negotiating their final account. During the negotiations with the project client, I could clearly see that a dispute had crystallised and that adjudication proceedings were necessary to resolve the matter.
My team worked collaboratively with BWL’s Dispute Resolution solicitors, who acted on behalf of Expert Site Services for the adjudication – it was a success and a great achievement for all involved. You can read the full case study by clicking here.
Following our work with Expert Site Services, it has been my pleasure to see their business go from strength to strength.
As with any business, there will always be challenges to overcome and learn from moving forward.
I’d say the biggest challenge of this year was trying to keep abreast of the sheer number of adjudication enquiries that came from the launch of BWL’s no win no fee adjudication product.
Following the success of Expert Site Services, it was clear that my team and Legal Services could support each other to ensure the very best service for construction businesses with a dispute or claim.
Although we have a robust follow-up process and system in place for incoming enquiries – nothing prepared us for how popular it was, and still is!
“You never get a second chance to make a first impression” – is a quote I stand by.
Retrospectively, I wish that I had the chance to meet more of BWL’s existing clients within a contracting environment when I was appointed as Director at the start of the year.
I’m a big advocate of building strong and trusting business relationships. Although I managed to meet and introduce myself to some existing clients, there are still more I would’ve liked to meet within my first few weeks at BWL.
Networking is high on my agenda for 2020, and with a growing portfolio of Construction Consultancy clients, I can’t wait to showcase how BWL can help and add value to construction projects.
One word. Grow.
I’m on the lookout for an experienced quantity surveyor to join the team who will add strength to our programme management capabilities. I ideally want this person to join us in the first quarter of the year.
So far this year, BWL has doubled the entire team, and it's great that I am already able to appoint yet another member.
The role is based in Darlington and comes with many additional benefits and perks – you can read the full description here. If you think you have the skills and requirements for the role, I’d love to hear from you.
Overall this year has been fast-paced, fun and prosperous for the Construction Consultancy Services team, as well as the wider team at BWL.
Our hard work and dedication to providing high-quality services to our clients are instilled in everything that we do, and we are all very excited to see what 2020 holds.
Keep an eye out for the Professional Bid Services round-up next week.
